Note: No June reunion see newsletter from cindy fall Reunion 2012 CARLTON REUNION 3rd Saturday of October 2012 Boomer, NC webpage created , maintained and paid for
by Past president Robert H. Carlton Best wishes for my close friend, buddy, cousin,
who is and has been a workhorse at each reunion, our new president Eddie
Barnes and best wishes as well on all his endeavors on our beahalf. He has my
full support. Robert Newsletter from cindy follows: Dear Carlton Family, March
27, 2012 Well, it was some family reunion we had
back in June, 2011. Only 15 people came, and 5 of us live on the farm anyway.
You cannot imagine perhaps, but it takes a lot of work to prepare for the
reunion: mow and clear the grounds, dust and clean the whole cabin, set out
50 chairs, set up the pool, rent a port-a-jon, buy
drinks, and fix food. This was all done for 10 people. If you are one of the
few who came, we really enjoyed your visit, and are really glad you made the
effort to come see your family. If you did not come, I wish you would email,
call, or write and tell me what we can do to improve the chances of your
coming next year.We will try to accommodate the
majority if you will only please let us know. We did make some major changes at our
June reunion. First, we discussed that Juneis
usually hot, plus many people are on vacation, or
involved with sporting events that take precedence in their lives. We voted to
move the reunion to the third Saturday on October 20, 2012, beginning at
10:00. Second, a new member was unanimously
voted onto the Board of Directors. Sadly, we have had several Board members who passed away
recently, leaving a vacancy. Jan Holland will be our newest Board member. Third, we voted on a new president.
Discussion included the benefits of having a presidentwho
lives locally. Since Eddie Barnes has led the
business meetings at the last 3 or 4 reunions, he was unanimously voted to be our new president. {We
gratefully acknowledge our two former presidents: Pete Carlton (Boomer, NC) and Robert Carlton (WV).
Pete was our first president and was responsible for the restoration of the cabin and starting our
reunions. Robert has been president for many years and worked to establish a website for the Carlton
family. Both served long and well and we really appreciate their years of service to our family.} Please
show your support of our third and newest president by attending the next meeting. Remember that we have a grill if you want
to cook. Otherwise, bring your lunch, although there is usually plenty to share. Sodas and water
are provided. We will be having a few extra events for
the children this year in the form of face painting and pumpkin decorating. We will also have a raffle
for three prizes, but you must be here to win! As usual, there is a problem that we
always face----money. We try to keep costs to a minimum, but there are always
taxes to be paid, de-bugging the cabin, the grounds need to be mowed
regularly to keep out snakes and rodents, and purchasing items for the
reunion. With so few people attending last June, there was very little money
donated. This reunion runs off your donations. The cabin exists because of
your donations. Please try to send something to help…it
is tax free. Some of you are great to send whatever amount you can. Most of
our large family sends NOTHING! This is YOUR house too! Please try to help us
keep the cabin in good shape. We do most of the work for free, but we need
help with the expenses. Please try to attend this year’s
fall reunion. Also, please let me know what we can
do to make it more convenient for you to get here.
I can help with directions to the cabin, and hotels in the area. My info is ewwinslow@wilkes.net or 336-921-3302 or P. O. Box 303,

20, 2012! Cindy Carlton Winslow If you have an email address, please send
it to me so I can send you notices that way and save money on postage and

do not have a current address or email for them. Have a safe trip, and please remember
your donation. See you Your cousin, Cindy Carlton Winslow 336-921-3302 P. O. Box 303 Boomer, NC 28606 Special guests 2010 year included Richard

Besides eating, and meeting all the cousins and other kin, the
activities include going up on the mountain to see the graveyard and
graves of Peter Saner, Charles and Sarah Saner Carlton, etc. The land
the cemetery is on is retained by the family, but the original family
land on Warrior Creek has been divided up and sold.
The surrounding area is beautiful. Pete and Lael
Carlton's house,
across the road from the cabin, looks out over a huge bottom where they
raise cattle and hay. The hill next to their house is the second best
hang-gliding spot in
Hang-gliders come from all over
of our visits in October. Very colorful and a little
scary.
The site of the old mill is up the road and although the mill is gone
(the millstones are now benches in front of the cabin) the creek and
rocks are the kids' favorite thing. They wear bathing suits under their
clothes and after dinner the kids go up there and wade and splash around
(with parents watching, of course).
