Spring Reunion new date 4th Saturday, on June 25 2011 10:00am to ? Bring a lunch 2011 CARLTON REUNION Boomer, NC IMPORTANT CHANGE: Please note that the
2011 Carlton Reunion has been changed to the fourth Saturday, June 25, starting at
10:00. Bring your own lunch. Sodas and water are provided. We have a gas grill for anyone wanting to cook. There is always plenty to share. Treasurer’s Report: We are in dire need of money with only $344
in the treasury. We replaced the damaged roof, and added
gas logs so the fireplace is now functional. These expenses, plus upkeep of the
grounds this summer, insect treatment of the logs, expenses for the reunion, and taxes
will more than deplete our funds. Remember that this house is YOURS. So please bring a donation if you attend,
or mail a donation (payable to Carlton
Homestead) if you are unable to attend this year.
Please help! This year we will have a swimming pool
for the kids, a nature walk, and a trip to the falls. Campgrounds are nearby with canoe/kayak
rentals, and fishing available. We’re about 30 miles from the Blue Ridge
Parkway and closer to Stone Mountain Park. If you have an email address, please send
it to me so I can send you notices that way and save money on postage and
paper: <ewwinslow@wilkes.net> Call me if you need motel information or
directions. Keep in mind that our oldest generation
of family is shrinking rapidly, with only a few members still with us. Come, meet, and talk to them while you
can. They have lots of good stories about the “good old
days”. And come meet the youngest generation
too. The young Carltons will keep our
family heritage alive. Please let me know if I can assist you in
any way to help you get here. We just want everyone to get together and have
fun. Please tell all your relatives in case I
do not have a current address or email for them. Have a safe trip, and please remember
your donation. See you on the 25th! Your cousin, Cindy Carlton Winslow 336-921-3302 P. O. Box 303 Boomer, NC 28606 Special guests this year included Richard

The reunion is at the Carlton cabin at Boomer at 10:00 a.m. on 4th Saturday,
June
25 2011
Besides eating, and meeting all the cousins and other kin, the
activities include going up on the mountain to see the graveyard and
graves of Peter Saner, Charles and Sarah Saner Carlton, etc. The land
the cemetery is on is retained by the family, but the original family
land on Warrior Creek has been divided up and sold.
The surrounding area is beautiful. Pete and Lael
Carlton's house,
across the road from the cabin, looks out over a huge bottom where they
raise cattle and hay. The hill next to their house is the second best
hang-gliding spot in
Hang-gliders come from all over
of our visits in October. Very colorful and a little
scary.
The site of the old mill is up the road and although the mill is gone
(the millstones are now benches in front of the cabin) the creek and
rocks are the kids' favorite thing. They wear bathing suits under their
clothes and after dinner the kids go up there and wade and splash around
(with parents watching, of course).
